QSMI Reaffirms its Commitment to Cybersecurity Internship Program in Partnership with VCU

Annandale, Virginia – June 12, 2023: Quality Systems Management Inc. (QSMI) is delighted to announce its third annual summer internship cohort, demonstrating our commitment to increasing cybersecurity literacy and providing hands-on, real-world experience to future information technology professionals.  QSMI began our internships in partnership with the Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) School of Engineering in the fall semester of 2020 with their Tech Talent Industry Pipeline (TTIP) grant initiative. Since then, QSMI has provided college students a platform for learning and honing essential cybersecurity skills enabling them to work to resolve current and emerging cybersecurity vulnerabilities and threats. Through our paid internships, students work closely with QSMI’s IT staff, HR department, and facility manager to implement and maintain our DoD Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance, as well as to enhance the company’s information technology, physical and personnel security controls.  Our interns are integrated into our cybersecurity working group and are involved in the details of our cybersecurity efforts. Projects and assignments range from understanding the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cyber Security framework to protect information and organizations as well as sensitive information, researching new technologies, threats, and vulnerabilities, and independent assignments, to working with the Company’s IT staff.  Our interns fully immerse themselves in the cybersecurity operations of a business and gain practical experience to complement their academic studies.  By actively engaging with this program, they will develop a better understanding of the “big picture” of protecting an organization’s most valuable assets as well as gaining hands-on experience under the tutelage of experienced professionals. As a side benefit, the income earned by our interns helps to mitigate the increasing costs of their higher education.
